Famous Brits

From Richard Branson to Gok Wan, many famous Brits have made quite a name for themselves at home as well as internationally.
As a keen reader of biographies and a curious type, I will be digging up the stories of rich and famous Brits as I come across them.
You will find information on here on selected past British legends and living icons of today.

Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson
Branson is no stranger to most of us with his Virgin Atlantic Airways and his adventures to cross the atlantic ocean in hot air balloons.
The Virgin group has over 360 companies and he the 261st richest man in the world with an estimated net worth of US$3.9 billion according to Forbes 2009 list of billionaires.
His father was a barrister and his grand father was a judge of the High Court of Justice and a Privy Councillor, the Right Honourable Sir George Arthur Harwin Branson.  He is the eldest of four siblings and has dyslexia and had poor academic performance but excelled in sports, especially swimming.  Handy for his survival in the ocean when his trans-atlantic crossings failed and he fell into the freezing water!
He married his wife Joan Templeman on Necker Island in 1989 at the suggestion of his daughter who was eight at the time.  He has two children Holly and Sam with Joan. Holly is now a doctor .
Interesting with his dyslexia, he is well-read and has released a couple of his own books his biography and 'Screw It, Let's dot it. Lessons in Life'.

Gok Wan - Fashion Consultant, author and TV presenter of "How To Look Good Naked"
Gok (born Ko-Hen Wan) to a Hong Kong Chinese father John Tung Shing and an English mother Myra in Leicester, England. He grew up in Whetstone, Leicestershire where his parents owned a restaurant. His sister Oilen is a childcare lawyer. Brother Kwoklyn is a martial arts instructor. He was bullied at school because he was over-weight, of mixed race and gay.
Here is a story I stumbled across featuring pics of him as a fat teenager. Click to view story  He has styled and worked with many celebrities inclduing Bryan Ferry, All Saints, Erasure and Wet Wet Wet.
In 2006, Channel 4 approached him to host the TV fashion series "How To Look Good Naked".  In the series, he helps women who are low in body confidence to accept their bodies and he styles them for a make-over photo shoot and a cat-walk show.  He has been hailed a fashion saint and for his sensitivity but rumour has it that he can be pretty nasty.  Here is a story I came across supporting his nasty side click to view, make your own judgments.
